Day 6: Week 1 – Personal Application
Questions for Thought and Prayer
Journey to Freedom has been written to help us fulfil our destiny as disciples of Jesus and know the joy that comes from serving Him for the rest of our lives. For this to become a reality, ‘truth understood’ with our mind has to become ‘truth applied’ in our heart. What we know about in our head has to become reality in our lives!
So, at the end of each five-day cycle of teaching, the sixth day is an opportunity to think back on the teaching of the previous five days and spend some time in personal thought and prayer. The sixth day is then followed by a rest day with a Devotional to help focus your attention on the Lord, before starting again with the next week’s cycle of teaching.
The vision God gave me for the 365-day Journey to Freedom experience was one of Personal Transformation – One Day at a Time. Writing each day’s teaching for Journey to Freedom was the most challenging thing I have ever done. I was challenged and changed myself by having to think through the teaching for every day of the journey!
Looking back now, I can see how God has magnificently fulfilled the vision to bring personal transformation to people all over the world. Today, there are thousands who have done Journey to Freedom, and their testimonies are truly amazing. Here are just a few:
“It has changed my life for ever. These past twelve months have been the most fulfilling and exciting experience I have had in my walk with the Lord . . . I weep with gratitude for what God has done for me . . . a lifeline that held me safe while Father God touched the broken places . . . the most important thing I have ever done – it’s reality . . . truly life transforming.”
But each one of these people had to face the personal challenge of bringing their lives before the Lord day by day and week by week, both to learn and to receive from Him.
To help you at the end of this first week, here are some questions for you to think about. You may find it helpful to look back at a particular day’s teaching as you consider your responses. There are no right or wrong answers, the most important thing is to be honest with yourself and with God, so that He can meet you in the realities of your life.
You may also like to keep a personal journal of your Journey to Freedom experience, keeping a record of the things that have meant the most to you or particularly impacted your life.
- We have all had a wide variety of experiences that have affected our lives. Consider what are the good and bad spiritual and relational influences on your early life – especially those which have helped shape your thinking about the nature of God?
- Can you identify attitudes and beliefs that you have today which are out of line with what you now know to be the truth about God in His Word?
- Do you really believe that God loves you and has a purpose and future destiny for your life? It’s far easier to love someone if you know that they love you!
- And are you willing to walk in God’s ways and trust Him for your future, even if it means having to meet challenges and and embrace change? This is really important as you step into God’s blessings and personal transformation through Journey to Freedom.
- Are you ready to put your hand into the hand of God and unconditionally trust Him to heal and restore you from the inside out?
And the next question will be the same every week! - In what ways have you been personally encouraged or challenged through this week’s teaching.
And finally for today:
You will be blessed to read Ephesians Chapter 1, slowly and prayerfully, allowing God to speak His love and assurance into your life, as you read of all the blessings that God has prepared for each one of us – and that includes YOU and me!
